Buxton, Melanie ‘A’ and ‘B’ and Plaisance ‘A’ maintained their unbeaten run at
the conclusion of the preliminary phase of the East Coast segment of the Guinness Greatest of de Streets’ Competition which continued on Tuesday evening, at the Haslington Tarmac.
Defending champs Melanie ‘A’ warmed up for the latter stages with a comfortable 3-0 triumph over Ann’s Grove Punters.
Playing without their inspirational striker Dwight Peters, Shermon Fraser put them ahead after five minutes following a swift counter attack that saw him release a cracker into the goal.
Three minutes later, Tyrone Liverpool, who had come on as a substitute received a floated pass from the right side and he volleyed into an empty goal to make it 2-0 at the half.
Fraser then gave them added cushion when he exchanged passes with one of his teammates to finish past a scrambling defender after twenty minutes and the scoreline stayed that way until the final whistle sounded.
Former champions Plaisance ‘A’ was another team that exhibited sublime skills in this format after cruising past Victoria Eagles 2-0.
Kester Greene gave them a positive start in the sixth minute with a neat right footed shot into

an empty goal after the advancing defender was left stranded attempting to intercept a pass.
Plaisance ‘A’ dominated possession and had a chance to stretch their advantage after being awarded a penalty which was signalled by the referee after the final defender was caught within the foul area by an initial strike. Plaisance ‘A’ talisman Warren Gilkes stepped up to take the spot kick, but unfortunately his effort went wide.
However, Gilkes was able to make amends two minutes after when he hit a well placed shot into the left corner of the goal after weaving past a defender.

Quarter-final action is slated for tomorrow at the same venue.
