Having seen the Toyota Supra of Rondell Daby dominate the last Meet, competitors confirmed for this Sunday’s Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club Drag Race Meet are vowing a more competitive day of racing.
Some of the competitors pose with GMR&SC staffers Desiree Lee (3rd left) and Tina Morris (right) for a photo op yesterday at the entity’s Head Office.
Yesterday Kaieteur Sport caught up with some of the competitors four days before race time and they all said that preparations have been moving apace and they expect the day’s events to provide spirited showdowns when the green light flashes.
Among those confirmed to be at the starting line are Nazin Gafoor, Rondell and Peter Daby, Pierre Singh, Anand Ramchand, Rajesh Panday and Budhram Heeralall.
According to Race Secretary Desiree Lee, drivers are coming in to register and fans could expect a fully subscribed field to represent Guyana against the anticipated Suriname invasion.
Lee urged fans of drag racing to get to the South Dakota Circuit on Sunday and witness some of the fastest machines on a straightway go at each other to clock the fastest time over the prescribed distance.
Additionally, race fans will have the opportunity to witness the Porta Tree Timing System which is equipped with specialized starting lights that allow quarter mile speeds to be recorded.
Races commence at 09:00 hrs and admission for adults is $1000, while children are $500 and vehicles free.
Meanwhile, GT&T, Universal Communications, Carlsberg Beer, Rent-a-Tent, AR. Jiwanram, Fanatix Designs, T&R Seafoods and Ganesh Parts and General Store are among the major sponsors.
