“Have you arrested the woman?”
“No Sarge. The floor is still wet.”
De same time another message come pun de radio set. “Sarge. Sarge. We deh at Cornelia Ida wheh de politicians got a meeting. Nobody ain’t come out fuh listen. And de speaker talking to heself and want we fuh clap. Wha fuh do.”
Sargie tell he fuh arrest de man fuh talking to heself. “You-all remember wha happen in Berbice wid Kwame? He was talking and only two dawgs—one black, one white— were standing. De white dawg get vex, raise he foot, and piss pun de podium. Kwame labba lip tremble and de dawg thought he did want a smell.”
Another set call Sarge See-All. “Sarge we got Freddie at de roadblock. He pull out some newspaper and seh that you seh we mustn’t gat no roadblock. We ain’t know wha fuh do.”
“Keep he deh till midnight.”
