Paul Willis, a father of one was sentenced to three weeks’ imprisonment after he dealt a sound thrashing on his reputed wife, after his jealousy got the best of him.
Willis, 21, pleaded guilty to the charge which stated that he unlawfully assaulted Odella Ross, at Broomes Estate, Mabaruma, so as to cause her actual bodily harm.
Police prosecutor Bharrat Mangru told the court that on the day of the incident the defendant came home and was under the influence of alcohol. An argument ensued between him and his wife, over him being jealous of something she did. As a result he got angry and dealt her several cuffs and stomps about the body.
The matter was reported and he was arrested and charged.
A medical certificate was tendered to the court highlighting the woman’s injuries.
When asked by the Magistrate if he had anything to say before sentencing, Willis told the court that he was “sorry”.
