Everest Cricket Club overcame Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) by 41 runs to capture the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/Banks Malta Supreme U-13 title on Sunday last at the Malteenoes Sports
Club (MSC) ground.
Everest took first strike and managed 251-2 in 25 overs. Each pair batted cautiously, even though no one managed double figures; Vijay Sharma and Alex Kanaya took one wicket each for GYO who replied with 210-8 in 25 overs. Navendra Persaud top scored with 10, while Zachariah Mootoo claimed 2-4 and Joshua Gardener 1-3.
Several players were rewarded for their outstanding performances during the tournament; Mootoo won the MVP of the final and the best bowler accolade, Narendra Persaud took the best batsman in the final award, Gardener was named the best fielder, Adrian Hinds of Transport Sports Club (TSC) won the prizes for the highest individual score (49*), leading batsman (167) and best all-rounder, while Ronaldo Fredericks of TSC received the trophy for taking the best bowling figure (5-5).
According to the competition regulations, the batting side shall be divided into five pairs and each pair shall bat for five overs. Batsmen shall have unlimited “lives” but each dismissal shall result in 10 runs being deducted from the team’s total. Each team shall commence its innings with a score of two hundred runs.
The winning team shall be the side scoring the higher number of runs after deductions for dismissals has been made.
