An unbeaten 156 from Gavin Singh led GCC to a 168-run win over Third Class, while Kenrick McDonald’s 91 failed to save GDF from a 150-run defeat against Everest as action in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) NBS Second Division 40-over cricket competition continued in the City Saturday.
At the former Test venue Bourda, the 27-year-old Singh fashioned his sixth second division century and his highest score at this level to lead GCC to an imposing 270-6 in 40 overs before Third Class were bowled out for 98 off 36.4 overs.
Singh hammered 18 fours and a six and added 83 for the second wicket with Manny Forde (23) after Trevor Hossien removed Martin Pestano-Bell (27) to break the 67-run opening stand.
Singh and Deonarine Seegobin (20) put on 78 for the fourth wicket as Keon Bailey got rid of Joshua Wade (7) and Khemraj Jaikarran (0) to leave the score on 254-6.
Shivanandan Roopnarine (31) and Andre O’Neil (23) offered token resistance as Tariq Dharamlall (4-6), Devon Lord (3-17) and Singh (2-13) conspired to set up the GCC win.
At Everest, 22-year-old McDonald, who hails from the East Bank village of Agricola, made an entertaining 91 with seven fours and shared in a 93-run seventh wicket stand with Jason Garraway (40) to lift GDF from 70-6 to 174 all out from 30.2 overs replying to Everest’s 224 all out in 40 overs.
When Randy Lindore seemed unfortunate to be run out for five, GDF had slipped to 23-3 before Jeremiah Harris (7) fell to Riyad Sattaur (4-22) at 60-4. Left-arm spinner Javid Rasheed (3-16) supported with the ball for Everest, who gifted GDF a number of runs with an atrocious fielding display on the fast outfield.
Earlier, the left-handed Bhola batted attractively for his 67 which was decorated with nine fours and two sixes before he was caught at long-off, trying to hit Lindore out of the ground.
Refel Singh (6) was removed by Ozil Sam, who made the breakthough at 20-1 before Khemraj Ramdeen weighed in towards the end with an undefeated 59 with seven fours. Garraway (3-52), Sam (2-34) and Lindore (2-26) bowled well for the Soldiers in a losing cause.
