Berbice Catholics hold Lenten Pilgrimage to Black Bush Polder
Scores of Catholics across Berbice braved the hot afternoon sun yesterday to journey to Black Bush Polder, Corentyne, for the annual Lenten Pilgrimage. Catholics from New Amsterdam, Port Mourant, Palmyra, Springlands and Black Bush journeyed on foot from Lesbeholden to Mibikuri, making stops along the way to sing and pray the Rosary.
It is an annual Lenten event organized by the Roman Catholics across the Berbice area as the period of Lent, being celebrated by Catholics and other Christians, draws to a close. A pilgrimage is a sacred journey to a holy place, and this year, the Catholics journeyed to Holy Name R.C. Church at Mibikuri, Black, Bush Polder, Corentyne.

The event culminated at Holy Name R.C. Church with a Mass at 11:00 hrs with three Roman Catholic Priests: The Chief Celebrant during the Mass was Fr. Michael Traher, SFM. The Concelebrants – Fr. Joachim de Mello, SJ and Fr. Ramesh Vanan, SJ.
The event, now in its fourth year, saw scores of Catholics from across the Berbice parishes, meeting together under the theme: “Come Let Us Go To God’s House “YEAR OF CONCECRATED LIFE.”
The Pilgrimage consisted of three parts: Pilgrimage, Holy Mass and a Lenten Reconciliation Charismatic Prayer Service. The Catholic Charismatic Prayer Group led by Bro. Kent Vincent and Team commenced from 13:30hrs, while Priests were available for Confessions, followed by a Healing Service.
Lent is a 40- day period of fasting and prayer for Christians all over the world. It culminates with Holy Week being observed next week, followed by Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
