With all entries in and systems in place, thousands are expected to throng to the
Port Mourant (Big Yard) Turf Club, Corentyne Berbice for the much anticipated ‘Clash Of The Titans’ horserace meet organised by The Four Horsemen Promotion group.
The Port Mourant Turf Club is in excellent shape some very fast times are anticipated. Eight races are listed for the day with over 60 horses on board and over $8M in cash, trophies and other incentives up for grabs in the various divisions.
The event is expected to see many questions will be answered, especially in the feature ‘A’ class 1600M event. It will also be a day when all the top horses in the country clash for a whopping $1.2M and trophy compliments of Banks DIH Limited. Will Score’s Even continue its dominance or one of the titans or one of the new pretenders do the trick?
Will Score’s Even be tired after his exploits one week ago? In that event not only did Score’s Even destroy the field, but got away from its handlers and ran around the 1400M track at KMTC twice before getting in the starting gate and still beat the field by about eight lengths. However according to Dennis DeRoop he is encouraging everyone to come and see what will happen today. The stylish trainer stated that his charge is in the best of form and if it did not do what it did before the last race it would have won by over one furlong. He is also banking on Run Nana Run which is in good form to be in the money.
On the other hand the unconquerable Fazal Habibulla, trainer of Treacle, which is the only West Indies bred horse of the “Titans’, stated that his animal is in excellent condition and will be hard to beat. ”Dennis has cause to worry; he knows I can beat him.” “Treacle is the only one of the horses in the event to have beaten Score’s Even. She is a Creole, beating the best imports, so Dennis got to frighten. We also have some fantastic achievements. The day when Treacle whipped Score’s Even, it was his second race for the day, wasn’t that outstanding too, to run two races for the day and beat the best in the country in the second race.”
According to Habibulla at the end of today both Score’s Even and CP Got Even will be “unevened” when Treacle is done with them.
Owner and trainer of Guyana Cup Champion C.P Got Even and Guyana Cup Rematch Champion Curfew Tower, Mr. Colin Elcock of the Elcock/Poonai stables as usual is not talking much. Both Elcock and Poonai are prepared to let their horses do the talking on the track today. While Curfew Tower is good at the sprints, stable mate C.P Got Even, likes the longer distance. Both animals are in excellent shape and raring to go, with the exercise jockey having a hard time during workouts. Top Jockey Randolph Richmond had to be sent for to help out. If what was seen during workouts during the week is anything to go by then the Elcock stable could ride away with the top two positions.
Not to be outdone are the other horses listed including Lady Budapest which ran second to Score’s Even, one week ago, and Bridal Stone Corner.
The three year old event for West Indies Bred horses over 1200M for a winner’s take of $400,000 and trophy will see a renewed rivalry among the likes of Strom Bird, It’s My Choice, Settling Star, Silver Bell, Loch Song and Country Girl.
