An elderly man appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday to answer to a charge of wounding.
The court heard that on October 25, 2014, at Kitty, Lionel Klass, unlawfully and maliciously wounded Salim Khan.
Klass pleaded guilty.
He explained to the court that he was consuming alcohol when the incident occurred. The accused stated that he and the victim had an argument. When the victim left the scene, he returned with a glass bottle and lashed him on his head.
Klass explained that upon noticing that he was bleeding, he retaliated.
After hearing his explanation, a not guilty plea was entered for him by the Magistrate.
The Prosecution’s facts stated that on the day in question both parties were consuming alcohol when an argument ensued. The accused slapped the victim and the victim dealt him a cuff on the shoulder. The accused then left the scene and returned five minutes later with something in his hand. Before the victim could have turned around, the accused jumped on him and stabbed him several times under the arm with a broken bottle.
Police were summoned and the accused was arrested and charged with the offence.
Klass was remanded to prison until April 17.
