All roads lead to the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground, Alberttown this afternoon when the 25th edition of the Kashif and Shanghi Organisation knock-out football tournament kicks off in what is expected
to be a momentous occasion.
Activities commence at 18:00hrs sharp when Riddim Squad locking horns with New Amsterdam United in the first of a mouthwatering double header. Just after the culmination of that game, the 16 competing teams will parade before government officials, K&S executives as well as the bigwigs of the Normalization Committee before the feature attraction between the Georgetown Football Club and Den Amstel.
The other teams competing for the top spot include Alpha United, Pele, Western Tigers, Victoria Kings, Mahaica Determinators, Slingerz FC, Grove Hi Tec, Agricola Red Triangle, Winners’ Connection, Hi Stars, Ann’s Grove and Bartica Beacon.
Even as the day of action arrives, the organizers are still receiving the blessings of the corporate community and yesterday morning the owners of Rubigees, a pharmaceutical company in the Mackenzie Market, Linden, added their ‘twobits’ towards the success of the tournament.
Aubrey Major (Jnr.) was in the Mining Town and received the gift from the General Manager of that firm, Jose Emerson and expressed gratitude for the donation while assuring his benefactor that the gift was highly appreciated.
Mr. Emerson said that he was always supportive of the tournament ever since it originated in Linden and that he was honoured to once again be an integral part of the advertising team.
Meanwhile, matches would also be played at the Mackenzie Sports Club, Uitvlugt and Leonora grounds with the grand final taking place at the National Stadium, Providence on Sunday April 5.
The winning team will cart off the two million dollars put up by Mohammad’s Enterprise with the runners up winning half that amount. The third and fourth place prizes are five hundred thousand and two hundred and fifty thousand dollars respectively. There will also be trophies which will be presented for individual and team performances.
