A teenager appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, yesterday, after it was alleged she stole a quantity of items from her employer.
Ariana Lalloo, 18, of Carifesta Avenue, denied the charge which stated that between January and March 2015, as an employee at Aqueelan Jewellery and Gift Shop, on Regent Street, she stole a quantity of items valued in excess of $700,000, property of Amrita DeJoy.
Police inspector Michael Grant stated that the defendant is employed as a sales clerk at the victim’s store. He said that during the course of her employment, it was alleged that she stole the articles. She was arrested, charged and admitted to stealing some of the articles. Grant noted that some if the items were recovered in her possession.
Lalloo’s lawyer petitioned for her client to be released on bail. The Attorney told the court that Lalloo is strongly denying the allegation against her. She is looking forward for a trial to prove her innocence, the lawyer said.
The Prosecutor had no objections to bail and the accused was released on $50,000 bail.
She is scheduled to make her next court appearance on April 1.
