In an attempt to promote healthy lifestyles, the Guyana Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS (GBCHA) has commenced training 20 employees of their member organisations, in order to equip them with peer education skills to promote healthy behaviours among their colleagues.
In a recent press release, GBCHA stated that training started on Tuesday last, and is to be held over a three-day period at the Edward B. Beharry Group of Companies, Charlotte Street, Georgetown location. The primary objective of this exercise is to sensitize all participating employees on health issues and domestic violence prevention.
Peer educators have been taken from organisations all over the city, and include persons from Edward B. Beharry & Company, Guyana Forestry Commission, Guyana Gold & Diamond Miners Association, Guyana National Shipping Corporation, Guyana Revenue Authority, Hand In Hand Group of Companies, Pegasus Hotel and Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited.
Ms. Ruth Autar, Chairperson of the Coalition, has commended participants on their interest in promoting healthy lifestyles in their places of work and communities. She also expressed gratitude to the management of the participating companies, for supporting the mandate of the GBCHA.
GBCHA has promised to increase awareness on health issues through partnerships with the business sector, Ministries of Health and Labour, Human Services and Social Security and other organisations.
The Coalition has been assisting their members in the development of workplace programmes, training, and the distribution of resource materials. The programmes offered under GBCHA are made possible through member contributions, and fund raising.
GBCHA is set to draw a fundraising raffle on March 31. The raffle is sponsored by Fly Jamaica, Wilderness Explorers, ND&S Superstore, Nanda’s Boutique, Cellsmart and Topaz.
