As preparation intensifies for the “Guyana Cup Fever” Horserace meet 2015, organised by the Port Mourant Turf Club in collaboration with the Jumbo Jet Auto Sales and racing stables, set for Sunday 5th April, some changes have been made to the programme.
Eight races are still on the cards with over $10M in cash, trophies and other incentives up for grabs in the event which is one of the richest on the horseracing calendar so far.
The feature D1 and Lower event will now be a little over 1600M from the previously advertised nine furlongs for a winning take of $1.5 and a combing purse of $2,820,000.
The G1 and lower event will now be a G3 and lower race and will also feature West Indies and Guyana bred colts, fillies’ 3-year-old and up. The distance is 1200M for a combined purse of $750,000 and trophy.
The F1 and lower 1200M event will also feature animals classified three year old West Indies and Guyana bred, colts, fillies, mares and up for a total prize of $ 940,000 and trophy.
There is an event for West Indies and Guyana bred three year old animals including colts and fillies also for a total prize of $940,000 and trophy over 1500M.
The Guyana Bred three year old colts, mares and fillies will have their chance at competing for a total prize package of $560,000 and trophy over 1200M.
The event for I1 & lower horses over 1200M is also for Guyana bred 2yrs old and up, colts, fillies and mares racing for a winning package of $470,000 and trophy.
The final race will be for animals classified J2 and lower and Guyana bred colts, fillies and mares for a total purse of $375,000 over 1200M.
The programme shows that the organisers are also moving in line to implement a number of new initiatives taken recently by those in the horseracing fraternity with the ratings and class of the animals being taken into consideration.
The events will be held under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority.
