Directors of the Hits and Jams Entertainment group, Kerwin Bollers and Rawle
Ferguson stated at a press conference held yesterday at their Lance Gibbs Street, Queenstown, Office that the ‘Boom’ concert which was scheduled for the National Park on Sunday has been postponed in the interest of giving full support to the National Football team, the Golden Jaguars, in their quest for glory against St Lucia at Providence on Sunday.
Hits and Jams Entertainment Directors feels that it would be improper to host their event on the same day that Guyana plays St Lucia in an international football fixture at the Stadium.
This month marks the second anniversary of their Radio Station and the ‘Boom’ Concert, featuring some of Guyana’s premier entertainers was billed as a part the ‘March Madness’ celebrations. The concert has been tentatively postponed to May 26 which is Independence Day.
“The Guyana game should take precedence to whatever we’re (Hits and Jams) doing on that day, so now, we’re asking the entire Guyana to rally around the team. These guys have, over the years, been sacrificing a lot to represent Guyana and this is the best way to show some appreciation by actually putting on hold our day so that the fans gets the chance to support them” said Ferguson.
Ferguson apologized to their fans for the postponement of the show which would’ve been the second ‘Boom’ Concert but added that he was sure the fans would understand the importance of this gesture.
He explained that local entertainers are very patriotic individuals and would not lose out on any opportunity to earn. “We (HJ) have put things in place so that they won’t lose out due to the postponement and will perform at our HJ Mash Awards Ceremony at the Theater Guild” the H&J Director told the Media yesterday. The Awards Ceremony is set for tonight.
After the Golden Jaguars face-off with St Lucia on Sunday their next assignment will be against Grenada the following Sunday (March 29) and both games will be played at Providence.
“Our National Football team takes precedence. We want the entire Guyana to go and rally around the guys, wear yellow and show the world that we are united in this great sport of ours and we extend an offer to the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Normalisation Committee to provide free advertisements on our stations for the two matches” Ferguson disclosed.
Although the second game is on the same day that the Hits and Jams’ anniversary Annual Day of Sports is fixed for, Bollers stressed that their activity will start early and finish at an appropriate time to allow persons to again go to the Stadium to support the Golden Jaguars.
