A Mahdia resident appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts yesterday charged with trafficking in narcotics.
The court heard that on March12, Nigel Gordon had 31 grams of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking, at Mahdia Park.
Gordon pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
Police corporal Bharrat Mangru stated that the police were on routine patrol at the Mahdia Park, when they observed the defendant throwing away a transparent plastic bag. He said that the police retrieved the bag and found a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
Mangru further related that the substance was taken to the station and weighed. And the defendant was arrested and told of the charge.
Gordon, who was unrepresented by an attorney, will make his next court appearance on April 20, at the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court.
