There is some serious monkey business going on in Freeman Street, East La Penitence. A “vicious” and “large” monkey has been invading homes and attacking hapless residents.
One woman said that it has been over two weeks that what she described as “a very big monkey” invaded the area. The woman related what seemed like a scene extracted from a horror movie.
The rampaging primate, according to reports, is said to be destroying fruit trees, smashing louver windows, detaching fixtures from homes and even breaking and entering homes.
No one seems to know whether the animal is a pet that has escaped its owner.
The very fearful woman said that she and others are forced to secure themselves in their homes to avoid contact with the animal. She lamented that the torment is beyond the control of residents.
This publication was told that help was summoned from the Zoo, Animal Protection Agency and from the Guyana Police Force; in a bid to capture the mischievous mammal. But all attempts made were futile.
Kaieteur News understands that children are being chased down the streets and one elderly woman was reportedly bitten on two separate occasions by the beast. She was reportedly forced to seek medical attention.
The 71-old victim told Kaieteur News that she was bitten twice, the latest being two Saturdays ago. She said that she was in her kitchen when the monkey pounced and bit her on her left leg.
The monkey was still roaming free up to yesterday.
