Day two of the 5th annual Hikers Hockey Club Junior Indoor Tournament lived up to expectations, when new champions were crowned in each of the three categories completed on Saturday.
In the iNet Communications Under-13 category Ian Burke was outstanding for the GCC Gladiators in the finals against a well balanced Hikers Innovation side.
At the end of full time the score was tied at 2-2 and tied again at 1-1 at the end of the penalty shootout. The finals would have to be decided by a sudden death penalty shootout and it was Baraka Garnett who sealed the first victory by Hikers in this category setting off wild celebrations by the youngsters.
In the Global Technology Under-16 girls final it was another GCC versus Hikers encounter that went down to penalties but this time around the Hikers would put it away 2-0 in the first round.
The victory was also a first for the Hikers girls since GCC have dominated the category for the past four years. In the Global Technology Under-16 Boys final a rampant Old Fort led by junior national players Omar Hopkinson and Deheron Wilkinson dominated a GCC team also packed with national juniors to secure their first Under-16 title 3-1.
The action continued yesterday with the Global Technology sponsored inter schools category, followed by the conclusion of the Woodpecker Products Under- 21 category.
