Third Class and Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) recorded victories when the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/New Building Society second division 40-over tournament continued on Saturday.
At GNIC, Third Class overcame the home team by five wickets. GNIC scored 139 all out in 35.1 overs after they were asked to bat. Former West Indies off-spinner Clyde Butts struck thirteen fours and one six in scoring 73, while Kurt Lovell, a member of last year’s successful Guyana U-15 team, scored 18 and Orlan Bourne 16. Butts and Bourne resurrected the innings after GNIC were reduced 53-7, with an eight wicket stand of 85. Keon Bailey snared 4-26 and Alvin Castello 3-30.
Third Class replied with 140-5 in 24.5 overs. Castello slammed 52 not out with seven fours and one six while Shawn Garnett made 19 and Shivanand Roopnarine 18. Marcel Mentore picked up three wickets; Paul Thomas and Dwayne Dick had one each.
At Gandhi Youth Organisation ground, DCC thumped St. Stanislaus by 265 runs. DCC batted first and rattled up mammoth 351-7 off their allotted 40 overs. Tevin Imlach blasted 124 not out (20×4), while Clitus Johnson cracked 62 (5×4,2×6) and Sherfene Rutherford 58 (3×6). Lindon Wilson and D. Bacchus claimed three wickets apiece. St. Stanislaus were bowled out for 86 in 16 overs in reply. Antonell Atwell grabbed 7-25 and Rutherford 2-20. (Zaheer Mohamed)
