All systems are in place for the Annual Kennard Memorial Turf Club Grand Phagwah horserace meet today at their Bush Lot, Farm, Corentyne, Berbice racetrack.
Six races are slated for the day’s programme with over 55 of the country’s top horses set to compete for over $4M in prize monies, trophies and other winnings.
Most of Guyana’s top horses have taken entry to participate in what is expected to be a day of exciting racing.
The A class event is the main attraction on the day’s agenda and has a tantalizing $1M and trophy available for the winner depending on the number of entries. The animals will compete over seven furlongs with the likes of Score’s Even, Red and Lovely, Just call Me Boss, Bridal Stone Corner, Church House, Princess Alisha, Jack Is MY Style and the newly Imported Lady Budapest down to participate.
The D3 maiden and E and F and lower race has the likes of Country Armage, Gold D Cova, No questions asked, Passion for Song, Release the Beast among others set to competed over 5 furlongs for the first prize of $400,000 and trophy.
The race for horses classified G1 and lower over 6 Furlongs for a winning purse of $300,000 and trophy will see the likes of Compador, Mansoon, Warcraft, Book Rules, Brazilian Gold, Settling Jet and Weekend Surprise among others in action.
The J1 6 furlongs event has the likes of Quincy, Red Jet, Royal Cash, Little and Pick Pocket among the 14 horses in the hunt for the winning prize. The top prize is worth $180,000 and trophy.
There are two K class races on the day’s card. One for horses classified K1 and lower and the other for animals classified K and lower. Both are over five furlongs with the winning take on each instance being $120,000 and trophy.
Horses such as Royal Stallion, Macedonia Colour, Survival King, Turn About, Sophia Choice, Chronic, Short Man, Bring It on, Trigger, Save the Last dance, Strike Again, Miss Regina, Got Away, BB Baby and Happy Boy are among those competing.
Top individual performers will be presented with accolades compliment of Ramesh Sunich of Trophy Stall Bourda Market and the organizers.
The race will be run under the rules of the Guyana Horse racing Authority. Race time is 13:00hrs. (Samuel Whyte)
