Taxi driver stabbed 15 times in foiled carjacking

A 34-year-old taxi driver was stabbed multiple times at around 19.00 hrs yesterday by a passenger who had lured him to Dazelle Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara, to steal his car.
A relative said that Deonarine Ramkellawan, of Enterprise, East Coast Demerara, was stabbed about 15 times, after he refused to hand over his Toyota Carina 212 vehicle to the would-be carjacker.  A sibling said that Ramkellawan sustained wounds to the head, face and hands and was being treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC). He was reportedly listed as stable.
Kaieteur News understands that Ramkellawan was in the vicinity of Coldigen Road, East Coast Demerara, when he picked up a male passenger who asked to be taken to Dazelle Housing Scheme. But on reaching the destination, the passenger drew a knife and ordered Ramkellawan to hand over his car.
Kaieteur News understands that Ramkellawan responded by driving into a ditch. This infuriated the would-be carjacker, who stabbed his victim several times before fleeing empty-handed. The bloody knife was also left at the scene.
Residents came to the wounded man’s aid and after Ramkellawan contacted his brother by phone. The sibling then took him to the GPHC, where he was still receiving treatment up to late yesterday evening.
