An East Bank Demerara man is likely to be charged today for his part in an armed robbery which allegedly led to the murder of Kaneville resident Shem Padmore.
The man was reportedly identified as one of the bandits who robbed a relative of Padmore’s in Kaneville, East Bank Demerara, hours before gunmen shot the 28-year-old in Agricola.
Padmore was reportedly slain after he went into Agricola to retrieve the loot. Police are still hunting for the alleged trigger man, who is known as ‘Uncle.’
Police had also detained four other suspects.
Padmore was shot twice in the vicinity of the heart and once in the lung, and relatives and others had left his body at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre.
Kaieteur News understands that last Thursday night, a gang of men relieved a relative of Padmore of a quantity of cash and gold jewellery. The relative allegedly complained to Padmore, who knew some of the members of the gang. The Kaneville resident and father of two insisted on going to Agricola to retrieve the relative’s valuables.
Despite being cautioned by the relative, Padmore, the relative, and a man who owns a car then drove to a house in Agricola, where the bandits were hanging out. It is alleged that Padmore then went to the house and confronted ‘Uncle,’ identified as one of the ring-leaders.
Kaieteur News understands that ‘Uncle’ warned Padmore not to “get into his business”. It is alleged that Padmore was retreating to the car that had brought him to Agricola when the bandit shot him.
Padmore was taken by car to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where he was pronounced dead.
The other occupants of the car left without identifying themselves. However, police reportedly managed to trace the vehicle after a security guard at the hospital recorded the licence number. They then questioned the relative who identified the suspects.
