International Basketball will make its return to Guyana tonight when Bermuda take on Guyana in the first of three games scheduled in the 2015 Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) International
Basketball Series at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
The night officially begins at 7pm when Colts United take on Eagles in the preceding game with the featured Guyana vs. Bermuda clash following from 9pm. GABF President, Nigel Hinds, told the media yesterday that he is anticipating an exciting series.
“We look forward to this kind of competition. This is good for Guyana’s basketball; to have you (Bermuda) here with players, who have played in Europe, and all over the world, very good for our basketball,” Hinds told a media conference at WindJammer Hotel.
The GABF President informed that the series is aimed at giving Guyana exposure ahead of their participating in the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Championships in June. Hinds is of the view that Guyana are ready for the Bermudians challenge.
“We have prepared under the leadership of Coach, Darcel Harris,” Hinds said, adding that in his view, Bermuda is one of the top teams in Caribbean basketball and Guyana defeating Bermuda “will be a plus for them on the road to CBC 2015”.
Harris concurred with Hinds when he indicated that Guyana will be giving more than 100% to be in a winning position tonight. “The guys are ready and hungry to play some ball,” Harris said, as he urged Guyanese to support the team in their Championship bid.
Bermuda’s Chris Crumpler told the media that it was a pleasure to be in Guyana for the first time and the series will definitely be “some good basketball”. He indicated that the Bermudian team is here to compete, hinting that Guyana’s A-game is expected.
The International Basketball Series continues tomorrow night before a break on Friday when the Guyana Olympic Association hosts the teams at a luncheon. The final of the three-game series is scheduled for Saturday night. Each night features preceding games.
Comedian Kirk ‘Chow Pow’ Jardine is the nightly host with halftime entertainment scheduled on each night. The GABF indicated that it has done all within its scope to ensure that an atmosphere of peace is enforced as the Guyana Police Force will be providing security.
