The Crawford cousins continue to climb the heights of the cycling ladder as the aim to meet that reached by their predecessors who dominated the cycling circuits of Guyana before.
Romello Crawford followed on the heels of the cousin Juban who won the Mashramani Open Even a week ago to take the Courts Guyana Inc. annual 40-mile Mashramani cycle road race held recently for riders in Berbice only.
The event, which saw the cyclists peddling off from in front of the Courts New Amsterdam Branch, proceeding to Adventure and back to the starting point, saw Romello Crawford winning the event in a time of one hour and fifty minutes (1:50). In fact it was the two Crawfords, Romello and Juban that dominated proceeding to take the top two spots.
As the riders were sent on their way by Courts New Amsterdam Branch Manager Stanley McKenzie, the Crawfords’ showed their intention early and along with veteran Wilbert Benjamin and new comer David Sampson, broke away from the rest of the bunch.
Benjamin rode in third ahead of Sampson in fourth with Samuel Moottoo fifth and Steve Ramsuchit sixth.
Romello Crawford took all six sprint point prizes available. David Sampson won among the beginners ahead of Curtis Dey.
The first BMX rider to finish was Jonathan Ramsuchit who won ahead of Shon Sue Hang in the race which was held from the New Amsterdam Technical Institute to the finish line. Marcia Dick once again was the winner in the female category with Whitney Poyer and Deance Welch occupying the other two spots.
The presentations to the outstanding cyclists were done by Courts New Amsterdam Branch Manager Stanley McKenzie. The event was coordinated Randolph Roberts.
