Greaves takes CIDA feature clash
Orville Hinds (Team Evolution), not contented with his sixth place finish in the first leg of the Cheddi Jagan Memorial 3-race series held last Sunday on the West Demerara, pedaled to victory in the second stage and 18th annual race which was contested yesterday in the Ancient County of Berbice.
Hinds pedaled to victory in Two Hours 38 Minutes 29.44 Seconds to win the contest ahead of last year’s winner Alonzo Greaves, Raynauth Jeffrey, Robin Persaud, first leg winner Hamzah Eastman and Raul Leal in that order.
Sponsored by BK International, the race pedaled off at the Peoples Progressive Party/Civic Office, Main Street, New Amsterdam, proceeded to Number 63 Village before returning to Babu John, Port Mourant, for the finish.
Raphael Leung emerged as the junior winner with Berbician Andrew Hicks, second and Chris Griffith, third. Veteran Junior Niles added yet another trophy to his already bulging collection by winning this category; he was followed to the line by Ian ‘Deaf Boy’ Jackson and Thuran Harris.
The top mountain biker was Ozia McUally who won from Julio Melville and Deeraj Garbarran.
Berbician Marica Dick was the leading female with Whitney Pierre second and Toshawna Doris, third. The oldest competitor yesterday was Walter Isaacs, a total of 47 riders faced starters orders.
The third leg of this race will be contested in the Cinderella County of Essequibo on Sunday March 22 pedalling off from Supenaam, proceeding to Charity before returning to Anna Regina for the finish.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, Alonzo Greaves (Roraima Bikers Club) was victorious in the feature 35-lap race of the Caribbean International Distributors Inc. (CIDI) sponsored 11-race National Park Meet.
Greaves, in crossing the finish line first, got the better of last year’s winner Hamzah Eastman in One Hour 14 Minutes 28 Seconds.
Orville Hinds had to settle for the third place and was followed by Raynauth Jeffrey, Christopher Holder and veteran Robin Persaud.
Other top performers on the day included Alexander Leung (BMX 6-9), Jonathan Jagdeo (BMX 9-12 and 12-14), Junior Niles (Veterans U-50), Linden Blackman (Veterans Over-50), Wilfred Thom (Veterans Over-60), Marica Dick (BMX Boys and Girls 12-14), Jamal John (Juveniles) and Sean Budhan (Mountain Bike).
National Coach Hassan Mohamed was the organizer of both events and expressed gratitude to both CIDI and BK International for their continued partnership for the development of the sport.
