A Wismar man, who was nabbed by police in a minibus on Tuesday with a quantity of narcotics, has been jailed for four years.
The man, Daniel Apple, 52, a labourer of Bastoo Street, Wismar, Linden, appeared on Wednesday before Magistrate Rhondell Weaver at the Fort Wellington Magistrate Court. He pleaded guilty to the charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
According to Prosecutor Inspector Grace Bristol, around 19:15 hrs on Tuesday evening two police officers who were on their way home, boarded a minibus at Rosignol. The vehicle had a number of persons on board, including Apple. Upon entering the vehicle the alert officers got the smell of marijuana, but were not certain where it was coming from.
Upon reaching the vicinity of the Fort Wellington Police Station, the officers ordered the chauffeur to drive into the Police Station compound. Everyone was ordered out of the vehicle and their personnel belongings were searched.
Upon checking the belongings of Apple a quantity of what was suspected to be seeds, leaves and stems of the marijuana plant, was found in two parcels wrapped in plastics, concealed in his bag. The man was taken into custody and the substance was collected, tested and weighed and found to be 7kilograms, 196 grams of the marijuana plant. Apple subsequently confessed to the crime and was charged.
A report from the police states that around 19:15h today Tuesday March 03, 2015, two police ranks were in a mini-bus at Rosignol, WBB, when they became aware of an odour in the vehicle, as a result of which the vehicle was subsequently searched where 7 kilograms 196 grams of marijuana were found concealed in the vehicle.
