As police continue their investigation into the execution-style killing of Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC)’s engineer Trevor Abrams, the owner of the alleged getaway car is said to be providing police with conflicting reports.
This is according to a police source close to the investigation.
Two Fridays ago, Abrams, 32, of Lot 131 Samatta Point, East Bank Demerara (EBD), was driving north along the EBD Public Road near Little Diamond when two gunmen emerged from another car and shot him several times.
Police subsequently found the getaway car, a grey Toyota AT 212, with licence plates PLL 5966 at a couple’s residence in Covent Garden, EBD. This was a day after the engineer’s death.
The man and his wife along with three other persons were taken into custody. They were eventually released on bail.
Yesterday, the police source informed this newspaper that the owner of the car has been changing his story too often.
“One time he (the owner) said that he rented the car now he is saying that he left the car at his mechanic. We now have to get the mechanic to find out what exactly happened,” the source stated.
Kaieteur News was told that the police are in possession of a camera footage which showed the two gunmen standing on the roadway near Little Diamond and shooting at Abram’s vehicle.
Investigators are said to be working to enhance the footage, but are still to learn the motive for the attack.
After being shot, Abrams allegedly lost control of his vehicle and ended up in a trench.
A resident who lived in the vicinity said that he heard about five or six shots from a heavy gun.
He added that he hurried to the front of his property where he saw the 212 giving chase behind another car, heading to the city.
The resident further added that he heard a loud crash later and when he peeked he saw a large crowd with a car in the trench.
He said that it seemed as though Abrams was already dead when he was pulled from the partly submerged vehicle.
The top cop, Seelall Persaud during an interview with this newspaper said that his ranks are making progress with the investigation.
He made this statement during a handing over ceremony held at the Princess International Hotel on Tuesday last.
Investigations are ongoing.
