to fill the National Stadium, Providence, to capacity with mouth watering matches that kept the large audience on its feet for its duration. Now the principals of the Kashif and Shanghai Entertainment group have defied the conventional belief that tabs the paucity of sound corporate intervention and has managed to influence support from another such corporation.
To this effect, beverage conglomerates, Demerara Distillers Limited has acquiesced to a lucrative package to offset the expenses of the organizing team. The latter group continues to work assiduously to maintain the tradition of staging the nation’s premiere football extravaganza which is scheduled to get underway at the Demerara Cricket Club Ground, Alberttown on Friday March 20 and concludes at the National Stadium Providence on Sunday April 5.
The sponsorship deal was conclusively affirmed when DDL executive, Larry Wills, journeyed to the office of the Guyana Football Federation, Section K Campbellville, with the sponsorship package and good wishes from the hierarchy of his firm. Joining the K&S principals was Assistant General Secretary (GFF), Diedre Davis, Finance Secretary of the Normalization Committee, Kareem Jones and Secretary of the K&S organization, Colin BL Aaron.
DDL has been an integral part of the sponsorship team over the years and Mr. Wills expressed delight in once again being able to render support. “The executives of DDL send best wishes and has asked me to relay good wishes as you seek to deliver the high quality of football the nation has become accustomed to,” said Mr. Wills. He said that they are sponsoring under Gatorade and Pepsi, the former product having the capacity to reenergize the players. “DDL has been on board for a number of years and we envisage this relationship going from strength to strength,” assured the DDL executive as he wished the organizers well. Both K&S Directors were happy to have received the gift and conveyed those sentiments to the DDL executive. They further committed to diligent work in order to deliver a top class tournament.
DDL has joined an illustrious group of corporate citizens, all committed to the success of the tournament including HJTV, Church’s Chicken, Sonic Business Services, Club 704, JGS and Ansa McAl among others.
Those teams seeking to add the ‘Holy Grail’ to their collection are Alpha United, Pele, Western Tigers, Rhythm Squad, GFC, Victoria Kings, Mahaica Determinators, New Amsterdam United, Slingerz FC, Den Amstel FC, Grove Hi Tec, Agricola Red Triangle, Winners’ Connection, Hi Stars and Bartica Beacon. The Guyana Defense Force has since pulled out of the tournament citing their desire to participate in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Championship and Ann’s Grove has taken their place.
Matches would be played at several venues around Georgetown as well as in the rural areas such as Mackenzie Sports Club Ground, Uitvlugt and Leonora with the grand finals taking place at the National Stadium, Providence. The winning team will cart off the two million dollars put up by Mohammad’s Enterprise with the runners up winning half that amount. The third and fourth place prizes are five hundred thousand and two hundred and fifty thousand dollars respectively. There will also be trophies for outstanding individual and team performances.
