The four tractor-trailers, along with some of metal bins that were handed over to the Neighbourhood Democratic Councils and municipalities in the Region.
Whittaker, while on a visit to Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) on Wednesday, handed over four tractor-trailers, along with a number of metal bins and brush cutters to the Neighbourhood Democratic Councils and municipalities in the Region.
The tractors, which cost $17.2M each, are intended to transport building materials for road-building in the Region, while the bins which would be placed in the markets environs would aid in taking care of the garbage situation.
Twenty-five metal bins were given to the NDC’s, all at a cost of $600,000.
Whittaker explained that the gifts that the tractor-trailer, along with the bins, has to do with the fulfillment of a promise by the Government, compounded with the clean up my country initiative.
He said the some $37M of the $1B was approved to the “clean up my country” programme have been spent in Region Two. Another $13.9M went towards the bulk waste initiative.
Speaking to NDC and Municipals representatives Whittaker admonished that the bodies should formally agree on how, when and where the tractors and trailers should be used. That agreement should be signed between the NDC’s and the Region Two Administration. He also cautioned that the security and maintenance of the equipment should also be monitored. “The equipment can be retrieved if the procedure to maintain and secure the equipment is not adequately followed.”
He also called on them to make optimum use of the equipment in the interest of a long term initiative.
Members of the Anna Regina Intermin Management Committee (IMC) were urged to solicit the outstanding revenues for the period 2014-2015.”Call them to help them in for you to help yourself,”
Region Two Chairman, Parmanand Persaud, took the opportunity to thank the Minister and the Government for the timely donations. He promised that the equipment would be put to great use.
