…co-worker released from custody
Relatives of Leon ‘Finger Man’, Anil Etwaroo, 45, of Number 69 Village, Corentyne, are beginning
to lose hope in finding their missing relative. Extensive searches were conducted on Sunday at the Number 66 Backdam through the trail which led to the excavator work- site. Etwaroo, 45, of Number 69 Village, Corentyne, an excavator watchman, for contractor, Budhur, of Number 69 Village, left home as usual on the morning of February 17, 2015 to venture out in the Number 66 Village backdam to work. He left as usual with his co-worker named Rohan.
The man’s family never heard from or saw him again, sparking comments.
On Sunday, police from the Springlands Police Station accompanied the man’s sister Gaitree Rajaram to the work-site. They discovered the man’s work bag and clothes. Additionally, the man’s asthma medication bottles were also found at the site, but there was no sign of Etwaroo.
Meanwhile, Etwaroo’s co-worker, Rohan Ramkissoon, was released from police custody on Monday. He was arrested last week to assist the police with questioning into the whereabouts of his coworker.
The man’s son-in-law, Ryan Ramdass, told this newspaper yesterday, that while the family is starting to lose hope, they want some sort of closure into the matter.
“We’re not giving up hope (that he’s alive) but we believe foul play happened,” he said. “Either they shallow grave him or something…we searched the whole of Berbice, but he’s nowhere around…”
He revealed that searches too, were conducted at the National Psychiatric Hospital (NPH), Fort Canje, seeing that Etwaroo use to attend the clinic for medication.
“I believe it was foul play that happened, but the CID ain’t taking the story seriously,” Ramdass said. Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Etwaroo can contact Ramdass on telephone numbers, 335-3569, 622-1800, or the nearest police station.
