A Laing Avenue man is free after his former lover refused to give evidence against him in a threatening language charge.
On Tuesday, Dexter Andrews, 47, of 229 Laing Avenue, denied before Magistrate Dylon Bess that on February 27 at West La penitence, he made use of threatening language to Natasha Douglas whereby a breach of the peace was occasioned.
Andrews told the court that he has an 18-year-old child and he was never convicted of any offence.
Douglas explained to the court that she would like the defendant to stay away from her. The magistrate then advised her to apply for a restraining order, which she immediately did. The woman then took to the witness box and testified to the courtroom that she did not wish to give evidence against the man.
She further stated that she was not threatened or forced to make the decision.
Before dismissing the matter, the magistrate instructed Andrews to “see the woman and pass her straight”.
He informed the man that the offence attracts a penalty of six months. Andrews was also warned that the next time he appears before the court for any matter of a similar nature, the court will not show leniency.
He was placed on a bond to keep the peace and any violations of the bond will result in him being imprisoned for three months.
