It is almost three weeks since owner of Airmax Vulcanizing Shop, Randolph Singh was executed and the investigation into his death appears to be going nowhere.
Singh was shot dead two Wednesday nights ago while standing outside of his vulcanizing shop on South Road, between Cummings and Light Streets, with two of his workers.
Singh died on the spot while one of his employees, Debert Mohamed was struck by a stray bullet in the process. He was treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) and sent away.
Kaieteur News was told that investigators have worked on a number of leads but none of them has been able to definitively point to who was responsible for Singh’s death.
According to a senior police source, ranks have questioned a number of his employees in an effort to obtain information which can indicate a possible motive for the shooting but came up empty handed.
There are reports that investigators have viewed surveillance footage around the business place but failed to identify the shooter.
The wounded Mohamed’s mother, who asked that her name be withheld, had said that her son informed her that he and his employer were sitting in front of the premises when the incident occurred.
“He said that they were sitting and a boy walked past them and asked, ‘y’all alright’ and dem say ‘yes’, then he (shooter) took two steps forward and turn back and pull out a gun. My son said he run, and his boss run behind him,” the woman explained.
She continued, “The gunman opened fire at the boss man, and because my son was in front of him running, that is how he get shoot.”
According to Mohamed’s mother, her son had no idea that his employer was killed; he thought that the businessman had been wounded.
“He said that the shooter only wanted the boss man,” the woman related.
Eyewitnesses say that the gunman was not masked but he reportedly wore a hat that covered most of his face. No one could say how the perpetrator managed to escape from the scene, as everyone ran for shelter.
Kaieteur News was unable to make contact with the dead man’s relatives.
According to one neighbour, Singh only returned to Guyana from the United States two weeks ago to monitor his business.
Kaieteur News was told that every night around the time when the incident occurred, Singh would make monetary collections from his businesses. The tyre shop is a 24-hour establishment.
