The Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) Mashramani Long Course Meet continued yesterday (Day 2) at the National Aquatic Centre Lilendaal with great performances from the girls.
Sprint Queen Amy Grant captured six gold medals from as many events which started on Saturday where she swam away with top spots in the 50m Butterfly, 100m Freestyle and 800m Freestyle in the Girls 13-14 age group.
The talented Grant followed the same glory yesterday, day two as she swam to victory in the 200m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke and closed with the Blue Ribbon Event of swimming the 50m Freestyle leaving Kenita Mahaica to settle for silver and Judea Crandon, bronze.
Another Queen came along in Jamila Sanmoogan in the Girls 15-17 50m Freestyle sprint when she just touched off Onika George who got silver, Accalia Khan took bronze. Both Sanmoogan and George achieved the CARIFTA qualifying times.
Danielle George swam the race of her life in the Girls 11-12 50m Freestyle to defeat her twin sister Jadyn in a hard fought battle which saw Ashley Inniss placing third. The Girls 9-10 group saw Riley Nurse coming back from a long time off to take Gold in the 50m sprint. Amber De Goeas had to settle for silver and Anika Dunn bronze.
Aleka Persaud also took 50m Freestyle sprint gold as she swam away from Patrice Mahaica who came in second and Antonia Day, third. Vice President of FINA, Dale Newburger and President of GASA, Ivan Persaud were in attendance and assisted with the presentation of medals.
The championship will end today with the 1500m for boys only starting at 17:00hrs.
