There are some persons who would like the Prime Ministerial candidate of the People’s Progressive Party to speak. So badly they desire to hear her speak, that this past week one newspaper editorialized that the candidate did not make any comments during the announcement of her candidacy nor has she spoken on the issue since.
The latter is not true. She has spoken as to why she opted to run for the position of Prime Minister. She said it was an opportunity to continue to serve her country. That explanation was not good enough for some folks. There have again been calls to hear her voice. They want to hear her speak. But they are not saying just what they would like to hear her speak about. They however keep moaning and groaning that she has not said anything since the grand announcement has made.
Perhaps if they indicate just what subject they would like her to speak on, she may readily oblige them. I am sure the one topic they are mainly interested in is why she joined the PPPC slate.
The good lady is perfectly entitled to keep private her reasons for being on the PPPC slate. That is her decision and her prerogative. She owes no one an explanation as to why she opted to offer herself up as a Prime Ministerial candidate. But she has given a reason. And that reason is that she wants to continue to serve her country. What greater honour is there than to do so as the country’s Prime Minister.
I rather suspect that those who want to hear her speak do not wish for her to speak on her experience within the Foreign Service. She has plenty of experience in that area and can offer useful information on foreign policy formation. But that is not what they want her to speak on.
I am sure they do not want to hear her speak about the administration of the Foreign Service or about how supportive the government has been in her work. Those who are demanding that she speak are not interested in that issue.
They do not want to learn about her family life or the challenges of raising children while holding down a top diplomatic post. They are not interested in the sacrifices she would have to make by having to travel overseas so regularly on missions and conferences to represent the country. They are not interested in those things.
There is an agenda at work. The reason why some people want so badly to hear the Prime Ministerial candidate for the PPP is because they want a question that is haunting them answered. They do not want to know why she opted to accept the candidacy for the Prime Minister position. They want to know why she chose the PPPC.
It matters not that she has opted for this position as a civic and not as a member of the PPP. Any association with the PPP by professionals is supposed to be a bad thing in the eyes of some individuals, and they therefore feel that the good lady should not have made that choice.
Some of them want her to face the media so that they can grill her as to how she feels joining the PPPC. They believe their own propaganda that any association with the PPP will tarnish the credibility of the person joining the PPP and therefore they want the Prime Ministerial candidate to face them so that they can put this to her and hear her reaction.
They want to hear what she has to say so that they can bore holes into her reasons. They want to ridicule her for joining the PPP. This is what they want.
They do not have long to wait to hear her speak. When the campaign gets rolling soon, it is inevitable that she will speak and they will hear what she says. The wait is not going to be long. So have patience!
