Learners perform better in core academic classes, thanks to the applied learning that is part of every Smart Lab experience. This was experienced by students of the Kuru Kuru College yesterday as they took part in a seminar on Renewable Energy and Smart Lab at STARR Computers, 59 Brickdam, Georgetown.
“In this modern age of Digital Technologies, it is important for young people to adjust their career path to meet changing opportunities as they progress in life. Technologies are changing at a rapid rate and it is rapidly influencing the way we live. Therefore, the quality of education is crucial for our young people.
“While it is important that we master the topics on Mathematics, English, Science and Technology, every school should have a Computer Smart-lab for student development,” according to President of Starr Computer Inc., Michael Mohan, who paid a surprise visit to address students briefly on career development.
He explained that STARR Computer has developed a Smart lab where one computer powers up to 12 terminal workstations. Hence, it can accommodate 12 to 24 students while accessing multiple applications simultaneously on one single internet connection, along with the local database.
Underscoring that the Smart Lab is energy efficient, low cost and requires a small footprint (space), Mohan said that most importantly, are its low maintenance and a perfect solution for schools, offices and home users with large families.
“On a single internet source, endless educational contents can be downloaded during the afterhours to a local database (server), which can then be easily accessed by students during regular classroom periods from the local server.
This low cost solution requires minimal space requirement for the lab installation, and, most importantly, with the low energy consumption, a small Renewable Energy kit can be installed to power up the entire lab.” Mohan emphasized.
Engineer, Derrick Rahat, spoke at length on renewal energy. STARR Wind and Solar Installation systems were toured by the students. STARR currently harnesses energy from wind and solar for daily consumption.
The students were also treated on a tour of the company’s operations including the Lenovo and Samsung Experience Centers and its solar installations.
