The nation’s swimmers will be locked in battle from today when the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association
(GASA) commences the 2015 season with the staging of its first Long Course Swim Meet at the National Aquatic Centre, Liliendaal.
The Mashramani Meet which ends tomorrow will also be used as Time Trials for this year’s CARIFTA Swim Meet which will be held in Barbados in April. Stephanie Fraser, who is an iconic figure when it comes to coaching swimmers in Guyana, will be in charge of a group of young and strong swimmers in the different age groups hoping to qualify for the CARIFTA Swim Meet.
Fraser has coached two Olympians in Brittany van Lange and Niles Roberts who swam at the 2012 Olympics in London and today she will be by the poolside cheering her junior boys and girls on hoping that they will swim the times needed to qualify for the CARIFTA Meet.
The junior boys that will be representing Fraser’s club, Dorado Swim Club (DSC) are Hannibal Gaskin, Omar Adams and Joseph de Nobrega swimming in the 15-17 age group. Daniel Scott and Antonio Hussein will compete in the 13-14 group that is anticipated to produce close and competitive battles from start to finish.
Action time today is from 10:30hrs.
