In an effort to improve the standard the card and presentation of horseracing in Guyana, the “Four Horsemen group” has made some changes to “the clash of The Titans” Horserace meet scheduled for Sunday 22 March at the Port Mourant Turf Club.
The changes are in keeping with an agreement and commitment coming out of the last Guyana Gorse Racing Authority (GHRA) meeting held at Rising Sun Turf Club.
Commencing in March, the members appointed to the classification committee were tasked in overhauling the entire classification system to reflect the current ratings system practiced worldwide.
This would see many horses that are usually stuck in a certain class due to the old rules, moving out of that class. Currently many of the imported horses are stuck in D3 and G3. The new format will see these horses being allowed to participate in lower class races due to the rating system which will be implemented. To simplify matters, the organizers are immediately accommodating the D3 maidens and non-earners in the last six months to be included in the 4yr Old West Indian Bred race.
This race will now read 1400 meters open to all horses, classified D3 maiden and non-earners in the same category for the last six months of under $300,000 and all other lower class and ratings of horses.
This promotion group will keep sponsors, owners, trainers and turfites updated and will be open to discussion on the way forward, in an effort to take the sport of horseracing to another level.
The rest of the programme reads – the feature A and lower event has a rewarding $1.2M winner’s purse and the Clash of the Titans Cup over 1600M.
The winning prize of $400,000 and trophy is available in the three year old event for West Indies Bred horses over 1200M.
The G1 and lower 1200M race fetches the winner $320,000 and trophy.
The 1200M three year old Guyana bred and I and lower horses race has a first prize of $300,000 and trophy.
The G 3 Maiden and H and lower 1200M race has a winning pocket of $300,000 and trophy.
The ‘J1’ and lower 1100M event has a pole position taking of $240,000 and trophy.
The J3 and lower race will also be an 1100M race for the take home money of $200,000 and trophy.
Among the sponsors on board so far are E-Net Works, Southland Distribution Incorporated, Poonai and Poonai, Sleep in Hotel, Latchman Mohabir Cambio, P and P Insurance Company, Banks DIH Limited, Delmur Shipping Company and Shariff Business Enterprise among others.
Among some of the horses set to be in action on race day are -Score’ Even, Treacle, C.P Got Even, Curfew Tower, Princess She Not, Plum Plum, California Strike, Spit Fire, Country Armage, Appealing Harvest and Captain Crook Tiz A Holiday.
The top Jockey along with the runner up, the top stable and champion trainer will all be presented with trophies and other incentives compliments of the Trophy Stall and the organizers. The event will be held under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority. The next promotion organised by the group is fixed for August 2nd 2015 at the same venue.
