Approximately two months after defeating Nicaraguan pugilist, Jose Rios, and clinching the WBA (World Boxing Association) Inter Continental Bantamweight title, Elton Dharry has added another scalp to
his resume.
Dharry forced referee, Arthur Mercante (jnr) to halt his bout against American, Robert DaLuz, in 2:44secs of the 7th of their scheduled 8 rounds bantamweight fight when they clashed in the main event of a 6 bout card promoted by King David Promotions at the Upsky, Long Island Hotel, last Friday 20th February.
Kaieteur Sport spoke with a member of Dharry’s management team who reported that Dharry started working his jab from the onset of the bout, landing a left hook that shook Daluz. The source further said that both pugilists spent the next three rounds trying to capitalize on each other’s weakness.
As the fight progressed Dharry continued to land jabs while DaLuz received a warning from the referee in the 4th round. The fight progressed into the 5th round where Dharry landed several thudding hooks to Daluz’ midsection but the latter pugilist weathered the storm while stalking Dharry and looking for an opportunity to land his big punches.
The early stages of the 6th round saw both fighters exchanging body shots and an especially vicious three punch combination from Dharry sent his opponent to the canvas but the American rose but was saved from further punishment after the bell sounded.
Dharry stepped up the pace in the 7th round, working his jabs and pushing Daluz to the ropes where he continued to pound away on his body and head to send DaLuz sprawling on the canvass for the full count.
Dharry has now improved his record to 18 wins (11 by KO), 5 losses and 1 draw with a knockout ratio of 45.38%. Meanwhile, sources close to Dharry revealed that negotiations are underway to clinch a world title fight for their charge. Kaieteur Sport will update the public as details unfold.
