Exciting prelims held at Transport
Nine teams of four athletes inclusive of one woman will be tested to the hilt when the inaugural E-Networks CrossFit Games comes off on Sunday at the National Park. Strength and endurance are but some of the attributes that will be needed for the teams to outdo each other, only the fittest will survive.
There are five (5) events planned, the organisers have made four known while the fifth will be a surprise for the teams come Sunday, one official stating that CrossFit is dealing with the unknown.
The known events for Sunday are: 1. One mile run; 2. 21-15-9 Deadlift 225lb for Men: 135lb for Women, Burpees; 3. 50 Thrusters, 50 Box Jumps – 24′ for Men, 20′ for Women, 50 Toes to bar for Men, 50 Roman Chair Sit ups for women; 4. 3 Rounds of 200m Suicides, 21 Kettlebells Swings, 55lb for Men; 35lb for Women, 12 Pullups – Jumping pull-ups for Women.
All events will be done in groups of 12 so there will be 3 rounds of each event. Athletes will have time to rest while the other 2 groups are doing their event.
Spectators will not be left out as there will be events ongoing throughout the day. There will also be a Degree Fitness Zone where there will be games for the fans. There will be a tire flipping event, double unders, skipping, and kettlebell swings.
Meanwhile, a preliminary event was held on Wednesday evening at the Transport Sports Club which consisted of 21-15-9 Kettle Bell Swings (55lbs/35lbs) and Burpee-Box Jumps done on a 24inch/20inch Box.
Each movement was performed for the set rep ranges before moving in each of the 3 rounds, e.g., 21 kettlebell swings then 21 burpee box jumps followed by the 15 Kettlebell swings then 15 burpee box jumps and then 9 of each. The 9th placed athlete and gym was eliminated.

4th Place – Neetzkiel Yisrael(Top End Gym) 6:59
5th Place – Dexter DeFlorimonte (BodyMaxx Gym) 7:34
6th Place – Osmond Mack (Life Gym) 8:17
7th Place – Nadina Taharally (Interline Gym) 8:18
8th Place – Paul Meusa (Fitness Paradise) 8:39
9th Place – Chatram Nauth (Team West Coast) 11:18
The CrossFit concept promotes the physical exercise philosophy and is also a competitive fitness sport incorporating workout elements such as high intensity interval training, Olympic weightlifting, aerobics, gymnastics among other exercises.
Noshavyah King, who is a well known Zumba Instructor and Jamie McDonald, Certified Personal Trainer and Proprietor of Fitness Express are the two coordinators o the event. Entrance fee is $500 and children could participate free of cost.
