Preparations are already on the way for the ‘Clash of The Titans’ Horserace Meet which is set for Sunday March 22nd at the Port Mourant Turf Club, Corentyne Berbice. The event which is promoted by the
‘Four Horsemen Promotions group, with the main aim of revitalizing horseracing in Guyana, is promising a race meet with a difference.
While all the details are being finalized, including side attractions and musical compliment, the promotions group is wasting no time as they get into full gear. Even with a month to go a number of major sponsors are already on board including some new ones and some regulars. Among them are E-Net Works, Southland Distribution Incorporated, Poonai and Poonai, Sleep In Hotel, Latchman Mohabir Cambio, P and P Insurance Company, Banks DIH Limited, Delmur Shipping Company and Shariff Business Enterprise are among the early sponsors so far.
The event promises to be one of the biggest on the racing calendar and is expected to live up to its name as it brings the best horses in the country together in a one day meet. So far all the owners have agreed to be a part of the programme for the rewarding sums on offer.
Horses such as Score’s Even, Treacle, C.P Got Even, Curfew Tower, Princess She Not, Plum Plum, California Strike, Spit Fire, Country Armage, Appealing Harvest and Captain Crook will be in the running. It’s definitely is a mouthwatering prospect. The lucrative A and lower event
is expected to have those mentioned above along with the newly imported Tiz A Holiday.
Eight exciting races are listed for the day with over $8M in cash and other incentives up for grabs. The feature A and lower event has a rewarding $1.2M winner’s purse and the Clash of the Titans Cup over 1600M.
The other events listed are the 1600M event for 4 years old Guyana and the West bred horses for the $500,000 and trophy. The three year old event for West Indies Bred horses for a winners take of $400,000 and trophy over 1200M for the winner.
The G1 and lower 1200M race fetches the winner $320,000 and trophy. The event for three year old Guyana bred and I and lower horses has a winners take of $300,000 price tag and trophy over 1200M.
The G 3 Maiden and H and lower 1200M race has a winning pocket of $300,000 and trophy.
The ‘J1’ and lower 1100M event has a pole position taking of $240,000 and trophy.
The J3 and lower race will also be an 1100M race for the take home money of $200,000 and trophy.
With all the buzz and excitement about, challenges have started to come forward. Owner of the Simple Royal Stable and Guyana’s only ‘A’ class horses Dennis DeRoop, is excited that his animal will be able to participate in the activity. He stated that Score’s Even will be ready for the “Clash of the Titans” race meet. When asked if he thinks “the Grey” can beat Treacle, who seems to be on a run, he simple said, “come and see.”
Promoters for the Clash of The Titans matchup has also announced that post positions for all races, (which gate the animals will start from) will be drawn the traditional way. A neutral party drawing numbers from a bag. The post drawing will be conducted a few days before the race meet and is expected to be attended by the media.
The top Jockey along with the runner up, the top stable and champion trainer will all be presented with trophies and other incentives compliments of the Trophy Stall and the organizers.
The event will be held under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority.
In the meantime, the next promotion organised by the group is fixed for August 2nd at the same venue.
