Burglars on Friday carted off two money safes from Readymix Concrete Limited after breaking into the Eccles Industrial Site, East Bank Demerara facility. But police subsequently recovered one of the safes, with $1.4M still inside, in a bushy area in Agricola. Indications are that the thieves were unable to get the safe open and decided to leave it in the area where it was recovered.
It is unclear how many persons carried out the brazen act, but this newspaper was told that the individuals entered the compound from the back and somehow managed to make their way into the Readymix building.
Kaieteur News was told that the thieves carted off two safes; one with some $1.4M and another with some $500,000.
Kaieteur News was unable to confirm whether the building is protected by surveillance cameras. Yesterday, when this newspaper visited the scene, a security guard attached to the company confirmed that the police recovered one of the firm’s stolen safes in Agricola. He said that no one has been arrested.
A month ago, five men entered the property through an open door and escaped with a number of computers after putting the two elderly guards to lie on the floor.
Kaieteur News was told that the door was left open. It is believed that the crime was planned by an employee at the establishment.
