Dear Editor,
As the date for elections draws closer, the PPP cabal is becoming more vicious and desperate. They have intensified their rumor-mongering, character assassination, propaganda insulting and disparaging comments along with an increase in racial innuendo that targets the opposition. The General Secretary has made this known at his weekly press conference last week when he said that that “Guyanese might continue to vote along racial lines …. at the upcoming elections.” Rohee and the PPP are scared to death of the AFC/APNU Pro-Democracy Alliance because they do not have anyone in the PPP with the integrity, morals and honesty like David Granger and Moses Nagamootoo. Their practice of race-bait politics flies in the face of the appointment of Elizabeth Harper, an Afro-Guyanese as the PPP Prime Ministerial candidate. But Miss Harper is not known at Freedom House and therefore will not be able to prevent the Jagdeoites from practicing race-bait politics.
The former President’s mistreatment of the first lady and lying to the nation for eight years that he was married when he was not and living a lavish life style by fleecing the country of $3 million a month has made him a pariah of the state and a liability to the PPP. Even more irksome are his racial traits, prejudices and ethnic profiling of Afro-Guyanese. This was revealed in his libel suit trial against Freddie Kissoon by Roger Luncheon who said that blacks were not qualified to be appointed as Ambassadors. This was the belief of the Jagdeo government which has marginalized the Afro-Guyanese population for the past 15 years.
In the interest of the country and the people, all Civil and Religious organizations which serve the interest of the common good, and which have not been identified as harboring allegiance to the PPP government must condemn such racist overtones. The PPP has remained stuck in the 1960s “Aphan Jhaat” politics that promotes racism, divisiveness and hatred between Indo and Afro Guyanese.
Everyone knows that the gang at Freedom House cannot run a political campaign that is free of race-bait politics, propaganda, distortions and untruths. The PPP regime is tarnished with ethnic biases, tribalism and prejudices.
It is a regime that is replete with negative political innuendo directed at the Opposition.
The difference between the AFC/APNU Pro-Democracy Alliance and the PPP is that the former is humble and honest while the latter is arrogant and dishonest. Unlike the PPP, the AFC/APNU Alliance not only believes but also accepts that Government exists to serve the needs of the public and to ensure that those needs are served efficiently, effectively and fairly, which makes it much easier for the public to trust and maintain confidence in the government.
Therefore, the PPP regime had better “wake up and smell the coffee” because on May 11 the people will vote them out of office.
Asquith Rose, Chandra Deolall, Dr. Merle-Spencer-Marks.
