It is expected to be non-stop action at the Rising Sun Turf Club, Arima Park, West Coast Berbice today. The occasion is the much anticipated pre-Mashramani one day “Jumbo Jet Sprint Classic” horserace meet organised by the Jumbo Jet Business Enterprise in collaboration with the Rising Sun Turf Club.
Well prepared and acclimatized and ready to go-all eyes will be on Tiz A Holiday as it makes its entry into racing in Guyana.
It is expected to be action from start to finish with all of the races being 1100M sprints and with the track being recently re-laid and in the best of conditions some fast times are expected to be recorded.
With over 70 horses entered and some $7M available in cash, trophies and other incentives fans are expected to have their money’s worth in the seven race meet.
All of the events have top notch horses lined up and with the best sprinters in the country entered for each event in their respective categories fans cannot ask for more.
The feature D1 and lower event has the likes of California Strike, Appealing Harvest, Spit Fire, Country Armage, Red and Lovely, Swing Easy, Jack Is My Style, Right To Rule, Passion for Song, Money in return and the newly imported and highly rated Piz a Holiday of the Elcock/ Poonai stable as they gallop for the $1M and trophy compliments of Banks DIH Limited.
Horses such as It’s My Choice, Gold De Cova, Keep On Swinging, Dream Come through, Midnight Blue and Sweet Return have all showed over the years that they are all comfortable in the sprints so picking a winner will be a tedious task as they compete in the event for Guyana and West Indian bred three year old horses for the $500,000 and trophy on offer.
If Captain Crook of the Jumbo Jet stable thinks that it will have an easy time in the E2 and lower event for the $500,000 first prize and trophy it needs to think again. Because the likes of Settle in Seattle, Release the Beast, Swing Easy and Goodwill Boy are also on top of their game and will be breathing down its neck.
Another close race is expected in the G class event for the $400,000 winners money and trophy with Silent Night, She So Special, Battle Hymn, Cassie, Princess Alicia, War Craft, Shooting Star, Sent from Above and Settling Jet in action.
There is a race for Guyana bred and born three year old horses for a winner’s take of $250,000 and trophy. Among those lined up to go are Amazon Warrior and Slim Shady.
Mary Ann, Dance for Gold, Red Jet, the Gump, Little and Royal Cash are among some of the animals racing in the I3 and lower event for the $200,000 purse and trophy.
The J3 and lower event has a winning prize of $150,000 and trophy and Quincy, Short Man, Dance for Gold, Royal Passion, Red Region, the Gump and Trigger will be looking to draw down on those winnings.
Patrons attending the event will have the benefit of receiving free programmes and parking along with other benefits which will be announced during the day.
The venue and track are in excellent conditions and according to organiser and coordinator Nazrudeen Mohammed Junior, the Rising Sun Turf Club venue has been give a general face lift and is in excellent condition for fans’ comfort. Race time is 12:30 hrs. (Samuel Whyte)
