All systems are in place for tomorrow’s Rising Sun Turf Club ‘Jumbo Jet Sprint Classic’ one day Pre-Mashramani meet set for the Rising Sun Turf Club, Arima Park, West Coast Berbice.
In picture Banks DIH Manager Gavin Jodhan (left) presents their sponsorship to Nazrudeen Mohamed Junior, organiser of the meet. Also in picture is assistant organiser and Guyana leading horserace commentator Compton Sancho.
The meet which is being held in collaboration with the Rising Sun Turf club has seen yet another adjustment being made with the event now being a seven race meet with the H class gallop now being excluded due to insufficient entries in that category.
With prize monies still totaling $7M including cash, along with trophies and other incentives on offer, an action packed and scintillating day of racing is anticipated. Over 70 horses have taken entry.
The talk still continues to be who will win the feature D1 and lower event. With an interesting line up assembled the winner will be anyone’s guess. Among those entered are: California Strike, Spit Fire, Swing Easy, Appealing Harvest, Jack Is My Style, Right To Rule, Country Armage, Red and Lovely, Passion for Song, Money in return and the newly imported and highly rated Piz a Holiday of the Elcock/ Poonai. The winner’s take is a sumptuous $1M and trophy.
It’s My Choice, Gold De Cova, Keep On Swinging, Dream Come through, Midnight Blue and Sweet Return are among those lined up for the race for Guyana and West Indian bred three year old horses for the $500,000 and trophy on offer.
Captain Crook of the Jumbo Jet stable will be hard pressed as it looks for its fourth win in a row in the E2 and lower event for the $500,000 first prize and trophy. However it will have to first get past the likes of Settle In Seattle, Release the Beast, Swing Easy and Goodwill Boy.
Another close race is anticipated in the G class event for $400,000 and trophy prize since She So Special has been added to the line to battle against the likes of Battle Hymn, Cassie, Silent Night, Princess Alicia, War Craft, Shooting Star, Sent from Above and Settling Jet.
There is a race for Guyana bred and born three year old horses for a winner take of $250,000 and trophy. Among those lined up to go are Amazon Warrior and Slim Shady.
Mary Ann, Dance for Gold, Red Jet, the Gump and Little, Royal Cash are among some of the animals racing in the I3 and lower event for the $200,000 purse and trophy.
The J3 and lower event has a winning prize of $150,000 and trophy and Quincy, Short Man, Dance for Gold, Royal Passion, Red Region, the Gump and Trigger will be looking to draw down on those winnings.
Patrons attending the event will have the benefit of receiving free programmes and parking along with other benefits which will be announced on race day.
According to organiser and coordinator Nazrudeen Mohammed Junior the Rising Sun Turf Club venue has been give a general face lift and is expected to accommodate the thousands of additional spectators expected to throng the venue to be a part of the day’s activities. The grand stand, the entire sward and other pavilion, the paddock, commentator’s booth and official viewing areas were renovated.
A bevy of sponsors including Banks DIH Limited, the Jumbo Jet Business entity, Kanhai Electrical, Survival Supermarket, Imperial Connections, Sankar Auto works, Customs family, Sheriff Business Enterprise and racing stables, Buddy’s Night Club, Chris Jagdeo construction, Rommel Jagroop Construction, Balwant Singh and family, I and R Trucking Service and Fazal Habibulla among others are on board.
The event will be held under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority.
Race time is 12:30 hrs. (Samuel Whyte)
