One day after their team was booted out of the Mayor’s Cup Football Championship and intent on continuing their developmental agenda, the executives of the Fruta Conquerors Football Club (FCFC) convened in the Board Room of the Guyana Football Federation, Dadanawa Street Campbellville and launched the inaugural Massy United Insurance Company Under-15 Football tournament.
Several members of the FCFC joined with Chairman of the Normalization Committee, Clinton Urling for the auspicious occasion and included President of the FCFC, Wayne Forde, GFF Technical Director Claude Bolton, Customer Service Representative of Massy United Insurance, Safraz Sahid, GFA Assistant Secretary/Treasurer Charmaine Wade and Secretary (FCFC), Daniel Thomas, who served as the Master of Ceremonies.
Mr. Urling commended the organizers for initiating such a progressive project while noting that tournaments of this nature underpin the objectives of the GFF in addressing its mandate to develop the sport.
The NC Chairman further explained that the mantra of the GFF is to oversee organized, well structured football tournaments. “We are fully behind Fruta Conquerors in its quest to achieve its goals,” assured Mr. Urling while lauding the input of the sponsor.
President of FCFC, Wayne Forde also congratulated his fellow executives while explaining that the pivotal objective of the club is centered on youth and grassroots development. The FCFC boss further noted the club has produced some of the better players locally while boasting that players that had their upbringing in the institution have had their embryonic tutoring at his club’s youth academy.
He also extended gratitude to the sponsors even as he implored the continuity of such arrangements between corporate citizens and the entire football family. Mr. Bolton lauded the initiative and said that events of this nature are better honed through group involvement rather than individualistic input.
He further said he is very impressed with the vision displayed by the club while committing to support at the level of the GFF once such programs fall within the parameters of the federation’s developmental vision.
Bolton reminded those present that league football is the best vehicle for youth development while commending the club for their continued emphasis on grassroots and youth football initiatives. “The future of the sport rests on youth development so I must applaud the organizers” concluded Mr. Bolton.
Mr. Sahid said his company recognizes the importance sport plays within the nation and hinted of future collaboration over the ensuing years. Ms Wade expressed delight on behalf of the GFA saying that she is very pleased with the initiative taken by the club.
She also noted that the tournament was launched at a time when there is a paucity of youth football at the association level. “This is the first step in rectifying the situation and I wish to extend heartiest congratulations to Fruta Conquerors on behalf of the GFA for this venture” she concluded.
The tournament will feature 12 clubs affiliated to the Georgetown Football Association and will get underway from March 7-April 4 at the Tucville ground. The competing teams will be divided into two groups and top two finishers in each group will advance to the knockout round.
Several other corporate entities have rendered support including Dynas Embroidery and Design and Milton Branford of Colours who donated one football to each of the participating clubs to aid in their preparations.
