the country will don their cycling gear and head to the Ancient County. The Mashramani cycling event is sponsored by the Shaveh Restaurant Night Club and Bar at Rose Hall Town in collaboration with Benjamin Sports Store of Fyrish and organised by the Flying Ace Cycle Club of Berbice.
According to co-ordinator Randolph Roberts, the race which is open to cyclists throughout Guyana, will pedal off at 10:00hrs from the Shaveh Restaurant Night Club and Bar at Rose Hall Town proceed to the No 51 Village on the Corentyne Coast, before turning back at the Police station to return to finish at its place of origin.
Veteran and female riders are expected to turn back at Nand Persaud and company limited after covering a distance of 25 miles. Competition will be in four categories – open, juniors, veterans and females.
The first six finishers will be rewarded while there will also be prizes for the first three riders to cross the finish line in the juniors, females and veterans. There will also be eight prime prizes up for grabs.
A number of other sponsors are on board including Colin Elock Racing stable, Banks DIH Limited, CJ Lewis and Sons, Turbo Jagdeo Racing Stable and Ansa McAl. An athletics road race is also on the card with the males set to cover a distance of five miles starting at Manchester Village Corentyne while the females are expected to start from Bloomfield covering a distance of three miles.
Both races are expected to finish at the Shaveh Restaurant Night Club and Bar. Prizes will be awarded to the first three finishers in each category. A number of 100m sprints will also be staged with the top three finishers in each category being rewarded. (Samuel Whyte)
