– Jackman wins U-13 title
Selenas Jackman won the Girls’ 13-years-and-under playoff on Saturday to claim that title when the
National Sports Commission (NSC)/Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) Mashramani Tournament continued at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Jackman finished on top of a round-robin playoff with Thuraia Thomas and Chelsea Hutson, who finished third. The day before, Colin Wong defeated Krystian Sahadeo 11-5, 11-4, 11-6 (3-0) to win the Boys 9-years-and under title. Joint third place went to Dhanesh Persaud and Christopher Shepperd.
Cieara Sukhu finished first in the Girls’ 11-years-and-under category while second place went to Thuraia Thomas and third place to Chelsea Hutson. Kaysan Ninvalle defeated Isaiah Layne 11-4, 11-5, 11-2 (3-0) in the Boys’ category. Joint third place went Colin Wong and Krystian Sahadeo.
In the Novice’s final, Deandre Gordon defeated Brad Reynolds 12-10, 12-10, 11-8 (3-0); joint third place went to Odit Rodrigues and Baoxiana Liu. In the semi-finals, Reynolds defeated Rodrigues 11-8, 11-7, 5-11, 11-7 (3-1) and Gordon defeated Liu 7-11, 11-3, 12-10, 9-11, 11-9 (3-2) respectively.
In the 13-years-and-under Boys’ semi-finals contest, Terrence Rausch defeated Jonathan Findley 11-6, 11-13, 11-7, 11-5 (3-1) and Tyriq Saunders defeated Niran Bissu 10-12,11-3,11-9,11-4 (3-1). Rausch and Saunders will play in the final.
In the 15-years-and-under Boys’ semi-finals, Miguel Wong defeated Rausch 11-7, 11-7, 11-5 (3-0) and Jeremey Singh defeated Saunders 10-12, 11-9, 11-2.7-11, 13-11 (3-2). Singh and Rausch will play in the final.
In the 18-years-and-under Boys’ semi-finals, Kyle Edghill defeated Wong 11-9.8-11, 11-8.11-7 (3-1) and
Alec Hopkinson defeated Singh 11-7, 11-6, 12-10 (3-0). Edghill and Singh will clash in the finals.
In the 21-years-and-under Boys’ semi-finals, Elishaba Johnson defeated Wong 11-6, 8-11, 9-11, 11-7, 11-9 and 11-8 (4-2) and Stefan Corlette defeated Edghill 11-8, 5-11, 4-11, 11-7, 11-8 and 13-11 (4-2). Johnson and Corlette will play in the finals.
On Sunday in the Boys Doubles final, Kyle Edghill/Jeremey Singh beatTyriq Saunders/Nicholas Romain 12-10, 17-15, 14-12 (3-0) with joint third place going to Alec Hopkinson/Miguel Wong and Sheldon Atherly/Anil Jonas.
In the Mixed Doubles Junior semi-final, Kyle/Chelsea Edghill defeated Alec Hopkinson/Priscilla Greaves 6-11,11-4,11-5,11-6 (3-1) and Nicholas Romain/Selenas Jackman lost to Elishaba Johnson/Kristie Lopes 11-7, 2-11, 8-11 and 8-11 (1-3).
In the Girls’ Doubles semi-final, Chelsea Edghill/Kristie Lopes defeated Aneka Phillips/Simran Bissu 11-4, 11-4, 11-7 (3-0) and Davonna Bess/Selenas Jackman lost to Priscilla Greaves/ Jamaali Homer at 11-7, 13-11 and 11-6 (3-0).
In the 15-years-and-under Girls semi-finals, Kristie Lopes defeated Aneka Phillips 10-12, 11-2, 11-8 and 11-8 (3-1) and Selenas Jackman defeated Davonna Bess at 11-7,9-11,14-12,11-7 (3-1). Lopes and Jackman will play in the final.
In the 18-years-and-under Girls semi-finals, Chelsea Edghill defeated Jamaali Homer 11-2, 11-2, 11-3 and 11-7 (4-0) and Priscilla Greaves defeated Kristie Lopes 7-11, 11-8, 6-11, 11-6, 11-7 and 11-5 (4-2). Edghill will face Greaves in the final.
The tournament will continue on Sunday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall from 10am with the Men’s and Women’s Singles, then the various age group finals.
