The once feared East Canje Knights basketball team have somehow lost most of their endurance and fighting instinct as they once again choked after enjoying a healthy lead when play continued in the second edition of the Anamayah Memorial first division basketball competition in Berbice.
Their latest disappointment came in their last game against the Rose Hall Town Jammers Basketball club when they blew a healthy 22-5 advantage to lose 54 -49.
The Knights of recent continue to show that they do not have the endurance to last the entire game and quickly needs to work on their stamina and back up support if they are to reverse the trend.
The game started with the Knights dominating almost every aspect of the game and by the end of the first quarter had established a 17 points lead. By the end of the second quarter the Knights were maintaining a momentum as the Jammers were beginning to find some range with the first half ending at 34-21.
The second half saw the Knights stumbling badly as the Jammers began to make inroads. By the end of the third quarter the jammers had scored 16 points to the Knights 6 to end that segment with the scores 40 -37.
The final segment saw the Jammers locking the Knights in a corner as they poured in 17 points to the Knights 9 for the come from behind 54-49 upset win.
Leading the fightback for the Jammers were Kevin Deolall 11, Kevon Wiggins and Mickel Lewis with 9 each.
The Knights effort were led by the consistent Kevon Emmanuel and Steve Roopnarine with 10 each, while support came from Dameon Hunte with three shots from down town for 9 points.
In their last game the Knights had blown a 15-5 first quarter lead to lose against Smythfield Rockers and East Canje Knights.
The competition continues on Sunday with Hopetown Warriors travelling to Corentyne to playing the Fyrish Black Sharks on the Fyrish Court. The competition is being coordinated by Vibert Garrett. (Samuel Whyte)
