Dear Editor,
Under the caption “Man seeks the public’s assistance for his ailing wife” in Kaieteur News February 10, 2015 edition, I was surprised that a professional beggar had the gall to actually place a picture of himself and wife within this publication seeking assistance, when in reality this man is well known on the West Coast of Demerara as a beggar who refuses to work for a living.
The claim of being unemployed is a farce since this man has been offered work but refused, instead he chooses a career in begging. Playing with the people’s emotions and sympathy is his game.
The said article also mentioned that he sought assistance from Central Islamic Organization of Guyana (C.I.O.G) and is awaiting assistance. However, upon inquiry, CIOG requested proper medical documents that were not produced.
CIOG is an institution that assists many genuine persons. But this man who claimed he needs help did not produce anything to substantiate his claim of Chronic Retrovirosis and Ceretal Toxoplemosis since the only neurosurgeon in Guyana works at GPHC and Mr. Shaheed produce a paper which emanated from West Demerara Regional Hospital.
The only logic I can see here is the doctor trying to assist the duo with an application for public assistance.
This document should not be used to prey on people’s sympathy since this husband and wife pair was seen many times in Parika walking and begging at stores on multiple occasions.
His wife has not done a C/T scan to the head to substantiate the claim. His wife walks strongly besides him to beg daily. A businessman even provided video footage of their scheming ways.
