I have founded a political party. I got it legally registered. In two editions last week, the Stabroek News cited the formation of a party by Mark Benschop and quoted Anand Golsarran’s intention to form one which he decided against. The newspaper said in the coming weeks others will be formed.
The Stabroek News was so right. I suspect that someone from my executive leaked the information to the Stabroek News. This will be a problem for me as I walk the streets today. People will laugh at me and say, “Freddie you write for the Kaieteur News yet your friends in your political party gave out your secret to the Stabroek News.
I will reply by saying the two papers are not competitors but sister organizations. Plus I have a healthy respect for the Stabroek News. I thought long and hard about this venture. It nagged at my soul daily since the prorogation of Parliament. Then, I read that before agreement was reached, there were protracted disagreements in the coalition talks with trust being one of the sticking points. So I went and got the party registered.
My party’s name is The Anarchist Watchman. I am a Nietzschean anarchist. I have always been that way. Anarchism is a philosophical school that views power as inherently flawed. Anarchism argues that power has inherent negatives that humans cannot dissolve. On the contrary, power dictates to humans rather the other way around.
I have been running away my whole life from power. I spent twenty six-years at UG and never took an administrative leadership position. At one time I was the longest serving member of both my faculty and department but I never sought to be Dean, Assistant Dean or Head of Department. There is something evil about power that will get you in the end.
I see what power has done to people like Fidel Castro, Bernard Coard in Grenada, Robert Mugabe, Forbes Burnham, Jomo Kenyatta, the French, Russian, Iranian, Ethiopian, Chinese revolutionaries. One can safely say that Edmund Burke was right – revolution never worked. I cannot think of one successful revolution that has sustained the instinct of freedom on which it was born.
Most of all, I see what power has done to the PPP, even under Cheddi Jagan. I used all my youth fighting the PNC. I even fought a giant of a man like Hoyte (I have regrets about that) and I would never have believed even for a fleeting moment that I would live to see that the PPP would become the most soulless, heartless, unconscionable, merciless, depraved group of people in the world. I say without exaggeration, “in the world.”
I fought side by side with people like Indra Chandarpal. She voted for my contract termination at UG.
I was a friend of Roger Luncheon, the doctor riding his bicycle to work at the hospital. Luncheon in my analysis is far more unacceptable a politician than anyone I met in the entire PNC party from 1964 until 1992 when the PNC lost power. Jagdeo was the worst leader in the history of Caricom.
I fought alongside many PPP stalwarts that today would rejoice at the death of democracy and would even kill to protect their dictatorship. The mistreatment by the PPP of the WPA may have few parallels in political history. Such an attitude by the PPP is equivalent to what Stalin did to Trotsky after the Russian Revolution.
Power has completely dissolved the soul of the collective PPP.
The Anarchist Watchman will not be contesting the 2015 election. Its main function will be to monitor the APNU-AFC coalition in power. I believe they will win in May. If you are young, and you are voting for the opposition parties, then please do so but be on your guard. I will vote for the opposition.
I have always published how I have voted and see nothing wrong with publicly stating so. I think it is my right to say how I voted.
Young people who are new to politics need to be on their guard about power. I have seen people in the PPP, WPA, DLM, GUARD and other parties crucify President Forbes Burnham and within their ranks they had people who were of less moral quality than members of Burnham’s Cabinet.
I don’t know who the leaders of Mark Benschop’s party are and who would have joined Anand Goolsarran’s party, but I know who are in all the other opposition parties, including some civil groups like Red Thread and Blue Caps. I will be on my guard. My wish is for an opposition victory but The Anarchist Watchman will be watching those opposition leaders who become governmental authorities after May.
