– cops call on persons with serious ailments to desist from driving
When 65-year-old Mohid Wahab died last Saturday after his truck crashed into the back of another vehicle, many thought that the accident happened when he fell asleep at the wheel.
But a post mortem has shown that Wahab died from a heart attack. It is believed that this made him lose control of his vehicle.
Wahab met his death when the truck he was driving slammed into the back of a parked lorry on the No. 56 Public Road, Corentyne.
Wahab, who sells vegetables, was returning home at around 08.10 hrs after selling his produce when he apparently suffered the heart attack , lost control and slammed into the back of another lorry GMM 3455, belonging to Jagdesh Dewant of No. 56 Village.
He was pinned in the vehicle and residents took a while to free him.
He and Hemchand who was with him, were subsequently rushed to the Skeldon Hospital where Wahab was pronounced dead on arrival.
This has prompted some traffic ranks to caution persons with serious ailments and who may be on certain medications about driving.
The police stated that are under severe constraints when issuing driver’s licences, the only two categories of persons they cannot issue licence to are persons suffering from epilepsy and those who cannot see further than 25 yards.
